21 work days to get through before we take off on September 28th. -
A few status updates for anyone who may be interested - and I know there are folks out there who are clamoring for more info - you know who you are.
The Condo:
We are settled in, the bathroom is now a lovely melon tone (thanks Mrs. O) and I am already at odds with the local birds, who seem to be stealing our tomatoes from the roof as soon as they are ready to picked. But - as my neighbor pointed out - 'you dad owns a garden center - you should be able to handle that' - and you know what? She's absolutely right.
So - the biggest question is whether we should mount a flat screen TV to the wall on the deck or wire the apartment with surround sound. Just kidding - figured that would fire up Taice. Actually - our biggest dillemma is whether the apartment will sit empty while we are gone. We've had some possibilities - Pep, M&E and Debi - but its looking more and more like we will be leaving it empty - unless any of you out there are interested in 'getting away' to Southie for 3 months at a very attractive rate. At the very least, we'll need someone to volunteer to check in and keep my grill company.
The Packing:
This is funny - because we have not packed a single thing yet - but it remains the 'hot topic' of conversation. I hope you guys are looking forward to the pictures from the trip - because if all goes according to Taice's plan - we will be the most stylish travelers around. I am going to try to grow the burliest beard I can just to balance out the sophistication.
Also - we need your help deciding whether or not this bag is large enough for a 'day bag'. Apparently, we will only be carrying 2 bottles of water, a travel book and a camera.
I fully expect to be loaded down like a pack mule with all the stuff that does not fit in that bag while Taice enjoys the lightweight style that the 'day bag' affords. What is your opinion? Most people have been agreeing with me on this one.
The Goodbyes:
The next 4 weeks will be full of 'seeing people before we go', culminating with the big Bon Voyage party at the Junction on 9/22. (6 months to St. Paddy's Day). We are definitely fortunate to have so many friends willing to take a saturday night out of their busy schedules to drink heavily because we won't be around for 3 months - we love you all.
The Mood:
Anxious, excited, stressed
The Wild Card:
I may have broken a bone in my hand punching Jordan and his bulging shoulder muscles at the Spring Hill Retirement Party. I have yet to consult a doctor as having a cast on for this trip is not enticing (although I could still carry our day bag). Stay tuned...
